GRAND RAPIDS — Lake Country Power has selected Precious Paws Humane Society of Chisholm as the winner of its Touchstone Energy Community Award.
The co-op chose this non-profit organization for the community service they provide for families, volunteers and abandoned animals. The award recognizes outstanding contributions, especially to the local community.
“Precious Paws is a special community organization that can be summed up in three words — empathy, compassion and responsibility,” said Chris Shaw of Lake Country Power. “The facility coordinates a lot of youth volunteers, which is great to see because it gets them involved in caring for another life. This benefits the kids, animals and families who eventually adopt a pet.”
As winner of the Touchstone Energy Community Award, Precious Paws was awarded a plaque and $500 that will go to animal care.
“This award couldn’t have come at a better time for us,” said Susie Douville, shelter director. “The money will be put to good use for our animals, and the recognition will help spread the word about our mission to prevent and alleviate animal suffering through shelter, adoption, education, and community outreach.”
Precious Paws Humane Society of Chisholm is 100 percent volunteer operated.
“I don’t know what we’d do without the kids volunteering,” said DeAnne Abate, who submitted the application to nominate Precious Paws for the Touchstone Energy Community Award.
Precious Paws is a no-kill shelter. They also hold clinics to educate local residents about the health and welfare of their pets, as well as lost, abandoned and abused animals. For adoption information, call 218-254-3300 or e-mail email@example.com.
Precious Paws Humane Society of Chisholm will compete with winners from other Minnesota-based electric cooperatives for statewide recognition and $1,000.
