MINNEAPOLIS — Citizens in Minnesota, and all around the country, are being targeted with phone calls threatening prosecution for not complying with jury duty.
The calls, which are made by persons claiming to be court officials, are bogus. The threat of a fine for not complying with jury duty is used to coerce those called into giving confidential data over the phone, which could potentially lead to identity theft and fraud, the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota said.
