Kimberly Kay (Dorstad) Piersig, 48, of Virginia, died on Dec. 12, 2010, surrounded by family at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth after a 14-month battle with cancer.
She was born June 16, 1962, at the North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn., the daughter of Allan T. Dorstad and Karen Lee (Mitchell) Dorstad. Kim graduated in May 980 from Sentinel High School in Missoula, Mont. Later she went on to graduate for Chef’s Management from Hibbing Technical College and she also received her Certified Nursing Assistant license. She married Steven Piersig on April 14, 2000, in Virginia. She was employed in the home health care business, last working for Spectrum Health Services and really enjoyed her ladies she took care of. She mentioned them often in conversation and thought highly of them. Kim worked until a week before her death because her residents kept a smile on her face. She enjoyed family times, created the family meetings starting with a “Blackberry” meeting as a goofy way of getting together with everyone who could. Kim loved her puzzle books, barbequing and had a very witty sense of humor that will be missed by all.
Kim lived, loved, and laughed often and her request is another family “meeting” to honor her, which will take place at a later date. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Kim is survived by her husband: Steven Piersig of Virginia; children: Brandon Rantala of Aurora (currently serving in Afghanistan), Ashley Rantala of Hibbing, Benjamin Piersig of Virginia, Brittany Piersig of Virginia, and Stephanie Hutchings of Hibbing; step-children: Nicole Piersig and Chad Piersig; mother: Karen (Richard) Bovee of Aurora; siblings: Terri Bunderman of Hoyt Lakes, Lori (Richard) Rantala of Aurora, Traci (Joel) Maynard of Forbes, Marshawne (Michael) Geisdorf of Aurora, and Mark (April ) Dorstad of Aurora; step-siblings: Dustin Bovee of Hibbing, Aprille Bovee Caroon of Hibbing, and Paul Bovee of Woodbury Minn.; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
