EVELETH — Eveleth-Gilbert High School was well-represented in the district Voice of Democracy essay contest with two winners in the top four.

E-G's Quinn Muhich won first place in the district, which includes schools from throughout Northeastern Minnesota. E-G's Jacob Breun took fourth place.

Voice of Democracy is sponsored by the national Veterans of Foreign Wars and the VFW Auxiliary. The theme was "American History: Our Hope for the Future."

The E-G participation was very good, said Kim Mattson, the Eveleth VFW Auxiliary representative. "We had 101 essay entries from Eveleth-Gilbert High School students expressing patriotism."

The other district winners were Carter Northey of Cloquet, second place, and Emma Todd of Hoyt Lakes, third place.
