Emil J. Stimac, 91, died Monday, January 16, 2017 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehab Center in Duluth..
Emil J. Stimac was born June 24, 1925, in Croatia to Marko and Lucy Stimac. He was a 1943 graduate from Mountain Iron High School. Emil enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He was aboard the USS Mount Olympus during the Battle of Leyte Bay in the Philippines. On June 12, 1948, Emil was united in marriage to Bernice Sallila. Emil attended Virginia Junior College and graduated from St. Cloud State in 1952. He taught Industrial Arts in Valley Park, Mo. and then returned to Mountain Iron High School for 31 years.
Emil was a member of the Mountain Iron American Legion for 50 years and the Virginia Elks. He was also a former member of N.E. Industrial Arts Association, N.E. Retired Education Association, the Lion’s Club, and a member of the Mountain Iron Sacred Heart Church. He was a jack of all trades and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Emil was also very proud of his Croatian heritage.
He is survived by daughter, Sandra (Tony) Malevich of Sauk Centre, Minn.; sons, Paul Stimac of Mountain Iron and Miles Stimac of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Ryan Malevich, Tarrah Malevich, Joshua Stimac and Matthew Stimac and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Tegan, Harper, Abigail and Hunter
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; sister, Ann Stulac and brother, Paul Stimac.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Range Funeral Home in Virginia with visitation one hour prior. Fr. Brandon Moravitz will officiate.
