Mildred “Millie” Lantz, 90, died on March 8, at New Journey Residence in Eveleth. Born to Everett and Ernestine Johnson on September 25, 1928 in Isabella, Missouri, Millie grew up on the family cattle ranch and fondly reminisced about time spent there.
Millie married Charles Lantz on February 18, 1946, having celebrated 69 years of marriage before Charlie died in 2015. After traveling the country following construction jobs, they settled in Embarrass, MN where they raised their family and enjoyed the friendship of the community. Millie, gifted with a green thumb, loved her garden, many plants and beautiful flowers. In 2003, they moved to Virginia and embraced a welcoming community and neighborhood there.
Millie is survived by her children, Janice (Jim) Lamppa, Eveleth, Virginia (Rod) Maki, Eveleth, Jim (Sue) Lantz, Makinen, Merry Jo Lantz, Minneapolis. Grandchildren, Derek Lamppa, Kevin (Cheryl) Lantz, Curt Wercinski, Brent (Julie) Lamppa, Kyle (Anita) Lantz, Doug Aysta, Darren (Elise) Wercinski, Robert Aysta, Jessica Lamppa-Score (John Score), Joe (Vicky) Bjerke, Brook (Saul) Beyer, and 26 great-grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
Millie is preceded in death by husband, Charles; her parents; brothers, Paul (Irene) and Gene (Billie) Johnson; a sister, Margaret (Boyd) Sanders and a grandson, Joseph Lantz Aysta.
A celebration of life will be held at the Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth on May 25 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. We welcome your presence for this gathering of family and friends.
