This week’s column is dedicated to Mr. Dominic Rauzi of Eveleth.
Mr. Rauzi passed away recently.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Thank you for your service Mr. Rauzi.
Rest in Peace.
How about a pair of our local Track runners coming home from the State Tournament recently, with 1st place finishes?
Mesabi East’s Ava Hill winning her third 800 meter title and Ely’s Luke Olson winning his first state title.
Hill will attempt to collect her fourth title next year.
Great job to all of our local track athletes.
Continue to keep making us proud
During the time I was writing this column, the State Golf Tournament was going on.
I know our local golfers will make us proud and hopefully bring home some hardware.
Good luck golfers.
It was a sad day when University of Minnesota National Champion distance runner Gabriele Grunewald passed away of cancer, at the age of 32, at her home on Tuesday.
Grunewald was born in Perham, Minnesota.
She openly talked about her fight with cancer since being diagnosed in 2009.
She fought that battle until the very end.
What about former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz being shot in the Dominican Republic, on Sunday.
The Red Sox flew Ortiz back form the Dominican Republic for better care.
The shooter, Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia has been arrested.
Get well soon David.
The Good Bad and Ugly (Carmen Figliola) Trivia Challenge
The question last week was.
“What is the name of the Chicago White Sox Mascot?”
Thirteen readers knew it is “Southpaw”
The names were numbered and my wife Michelle picked number 2, which made Kim Huewe a winner.
Give this one a try.
“Who was the Major League Baseball player to fire a ball and hit a bird? The bird was killed and the player was arrested for a short time?”
You have until Monday night to send in your guess.
That will do it for this week.
Have a wonderful Land of the Loon weekend.
