The final firearms deer harvest totals are in and although they are considered preliminary at this point, one can paint a pretty complete picture of the season with them: The numbers were down up north.
DULUTH — The Virginia girls’ basketball team made too many unforced errors and it cost them in a 69-56 loss to Duluth Marshall, the No. 4 ranked team in the state.
AURORA — The Mesabi East girls’ basketball team shook off a tough shooting first half, but made up for it defensively on their way to a 57-27 win over Eveleth-Gilbert on Thursday night.
MOUNTAIN IRON — Asher Zubich and Nikolas Jesch combined for 58 points as the Mountain Iron-Buhl boys’ basketball improved to 3-0 with a 91-61 win over Hill City.
HIBBING — Just over a month ago, Dana Lindstrom came up with a plan for the Hibbing/Chisholm High School girls and boys hockey teams to make a difference.
VIRGINIA — The Mesabi Range men’s basketball team looked like they were ready to cruise Wednesday night against visiting Gogebic leading 28-8 at one point in the first half.
MOUNTAIN IRON — The Rangers came up against a big and athletic Eveleth-Gilbert team Tuesday in their home opener, but Mountain Iron-Buhl adjusted well to net an 88-74 victory over the visitors.
DEER RIVER — The Virginia girls’ basketball team had a sluggish start Tuesday night, but used a storng bush in the back end of the second half to come away with a 63-44 win over hosting Deer River.
VIRGINIA — The Mesabi Range College women’s basketball team is down to five players due to injuries and has been forced to cancel its games this week.
Thanksgiving has just passed, so I thought this week I’d add another entry into my not-so-annual columns on who and what I’m thankful for this holiday season. Let’s get to it.
