Giants win Taconite Invite

AURORA — For the first time in team history, the Mesabi East girls’ swim team has won their own Taconite Invite, defeating 11-time defending winners Duluth East with 346.5 points.

The Giants had three event wins on the day and strong performances down the line to take the home meet crown for the first time.

Mesabi East was led by Megan Williams with a meet record in the 100 backstroke (1:01.92). Teammate Hannah Nygaard was second in the event at 1:07.06.

Mesabi East also got a win from Kailey Fossell in the 1 meter dive competition. Fossell tallied 380.35 points to get the win. Teammate Zariah Baker finished third with 317.10.
