‘Good’ to E-G boys’ hockey team and to Super Sunday

This week’s column is dedicated to Richard Moore of Virginia.

Mr. Moore passed away recently.

He served in World War II in the U. S. Army.

Thank you for your service Mr. Moore.

Rest in peace.

A big ‘Good’ goes out to the Eveleth-Gilbert boys’ hockey team and their coaching staff for what happened after they came to the Miners Memorial Building recently.

The Golden Bears came over and took on Virginia/MI-B.

The Blue Devils came away with a 4-1 victory, but what I heard about the day after the game really stuck out to me.

I heard from a Miners employee that the entire Golden Bears locker room was in wonderful shape.

No trash anywhere, no dirty towels thrown around, the locker room was just like it was when the Golden Bears got there.

Great job to Golden Bears coach Jeff Torrel and his entire staff and players for the respect they showed to the building they visited.

Way to Go Golden Bears.

You know what Sunday is don’t you readers?

Yup, it is Super Bowl Sunday.

The New England Patriots will face the Los Angeles Rams at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.

Who do you like?

I will take the Patriots, 26-22.

Have a wonderful Super Bowl Sunday folks.

How about this weather we are having?

I know, I know. It’s Northern Minnesota, but who I am really worried about is all of the athletic directors at the schools.

All the events were canceled because of the weather, and now the athletic directors have to reschedule the events and find officials who are available to work the games.

It’s going to be a sloppy end of the regular season.

I feel bad for you athletic directors.

How about some people thinking that the Rams and Saints game should have been replayed because the officials missed a call?

Did they miss the call? Yes.

Was that the only call and official has missed?

Now they are possibly looking at coaches able to challenge plays that aren’t called.

Officials would have to go look at the play on the TV on the sideline with another official.

TV time outs, missed call time outs, fan runs on the field time out.

Before you know it, the games will be five hours long.

Come on NFL.

The Good Bad and Ugly Carmen Figliola Trivia Challenge

The question last week was, “What Dallas Cowboy had his helmet stolen at the 1994 Super Bowl?”

Way too easy for my readers.

Twenty-four readers knew it was Emmitt Smith.

The names were numbered and my Michelle picked number 1, which was next to Willie Spelts’ name.

Give this one a try folks.

A lot of people remember Abbott & Costello’s “Who’s on First?” routine.

“Who was the center fielder?”

You have until Monday night to send in your guess.

That will do it for this week.

It will warm up soon, so just remember ... Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff ... It’s Only Sports.
