SUPERIOR — The Eveleth-Gilbert Area girls’ hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie Thursday night against Superior.
The Spartans started things off with two goals within the first five minutes as Brooklyn Burger and Emily Berka got past E-G goalie Rachel Woods to go up 2-0 early on.
The Bears got one back later in the first as Katie Scherf took the pass from Kada Ceglar and worked the puck past Superior goalie Presley Beron to make things 2-1.
Anneka Lundgren tied things up for the Bears in the second period with a power play goal just under two minutes into the frame. Assisted by Anna Seitz and Autumn Gregorich, Lundgren’s goal knotted the two teams at two heading into the final period.
The Bears struck first in the third period as Sophia Flatley etched an unassisted, short handed goal at 1:46 to put E-G up 3-2. Superior, however, managed to tie things up at 16:50 in the final period on an unassisted goal from Lucy Drougas.
Neither team could find the back of the net during overtime and the game was declared a draw.
E-G’s Woods stopped 30 shots on the night, while Beron stopped 29 for the Spartans.
Eveleth-Gilbert (7-8-3) will travel to Silver Bay on Tuesday to take on North Shore.
