ELY — After two games in the Ely Junior Legion Classic, the Virginia Junior American Legion baseball team has as many wins to their name as games played.
Virginia opened up tournament play Friday with a 13-3 win over Thunder Bay in five innings and got a strong pitching performance out of Mason Carlson.
Carlson pitched the complete five innings giving up three runs (one earned) on only two hits.
At the plate, the Virginia bats were on fire with Nick Peters, Daniel Moore and Tommy Neanich all picking up multiple hits in the win.
On Saturday morning, the Virginia Junior American Legion team did battle with the team from Taconite and picked up another 10-run win, defeating them 11-1 in six innings.
Daniel Moore was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on four hits over the six innings of play. Virginia recorded no errors in the contest.
Logan Nordby, Ryan Hujanen and Mason Carlson put in work at the plate. All three hitters had a pair of hits in the win.
